Boxhead Chardonnay

20120216-182554.jpg Unlike the mainstream California Chardonnay, there is whole other world of unoaked Chardonnays. They are fermented in stainless steel and can be matured in neutral oak so no oak flavors are prevalent. Chablis, France is probably the most well known region using little to no oak. It is starting to become common practice in many areas all around the world, Australia being one of them. Last night I had my first bottle of Boxhead Chardonnay from Barossa, Australia. Unoaked, citrus notes and tropical fruits. I dig it. It is now by the glass ($8/glass $40/bottle) at Mike’s Wine Dive! Don’t you just love the label?
